Nesting Boxes for the Alewife Reservation
Notes from Stew Sanders, Nov. 29, 2002 Re: 6 houses for mounting onto wood. Here are the heights the posts for the houses need to be: 2 Kestrel boxes: at least 14' 1 Chickadee about 8' 1 Tree Swallow about 9' 1 Wren about 4' The taller posts can be bolted to short posts in the ground so they can be lowered for cleaning. I purchased 4 bolts today for the Kestrel houses. As you know the houses are large and heavy. I am prepared to add baffles when it appears that animals are climbing the posts, and I have directions for making them from stove pipe. The Flicker house will be nailed to a tree. |
