Alewife Brook Fish Advisory
added to website October 26, 2011 DEP sampled fish (carp, white perch, and yellow perch) from the Brook and tested them for mercury, PCBs, and several pesticides. We reviewed the data to see if it warranted a fish advisory due to level of contaminants. The level of PCBs in carp met the criteria for a fish advisory. The Mystic River has PCB advisory, as does Lower Mystic Lake. It is not surprising to find old contaminants (like PCBs, DDT, or chlordane) in urban areas. Alewife fish, to our knowledge, hadnt been tested before.
