More Deer Sightings at Alewife — July 2007
Added to website September 23, 2007
by Carol Thrope and by Joe Mal

I guess I assumed that seeing a deer was not such an unusual event in the area, even though it was a first for me at that locale. I belatedly note here that I saw a beautiful young fawn in the Silver Maple Forest on July 21, around 9:15 a.m. towards the end of a two hour walk in the area. I had encountered several dead end paths in the open meadow trying to get over to the Little River/Perch Pond where I had been at the Christmas Bird Count, so instead I walked down Acorn Park Drive and climbed through summer growth to wander the woods. I spent 10 minutes near the fawn, moving slowly, as he/she nibbled and explored. Not my first encounter with a deer, but every time is one full of wonder and appreciation for the contact. Hopefully many will take the time to voice support in the efforts to preserve that open space, just up Belmont Uplands or Save the Silver Maple Forest to read about next steps.

My girlfriend and I spotted a single adult deer at Alewife back in July. It was about 7PM. and NW. of the Rotory.I would have reported it sooner, had I known that it was of importance.
