Earth Day at Alewife:
Super Mystic Cleanup

The Friends of Alewife Reservation (FAR), in cooperation with the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) will be organizing their annual Super Mystic Cleanup on Earth Day at the Alewife Reservation on April 26 from 9am to 1pm.

Throughout the watershed, these cleanups are initiated by the Mystic River Watershed Association and go on all spring. The Alewife cleanup will cover the 115 acres from Yates Pond (near the Alewife T station), the forest by Arthur D Little, the western most tip of the reservation and Blair Pond with Belmont organizer, Mark Kirk. Blair Pond is separated from the main body of the Reservation by MBTA commuter rail.

Volunteers or groups interested in taking a land and water section should contact: Jane Eisenstark (617) 661-5341 or Dennis Carr (617) 314-7102

An information table with the city's educational energy and clean water policies and suggestions will be available, as well as material about the Reservation. Walk-up volunteers will meet behind the Alewife T-station the day of the cleanup. Tools and gloves will be provided if you don't have your own. Snacks and water will be provided at the information table courtesy of Bread and Circus Inc.

Volunteers will be led in groups to various tree, shrub and water terrain by city leaders or elected officials and representatives of environmental organizations. They will remove litter and debris that has accumulated since last fall's cleanups of the Friends.

Sponsors (partial list): Dodge Co. Inc. Wyeth Co., Partners Financial, Zeff Photo, Bioengineering, Inc., Crimson Printing, Montgomery, Watson and Harza, MDC, City of Cambridge, Mystic River Watershed Association and others. Business sponsors will be asked for $5 per cubic yard collected for the Alewife Community Arts Mural project.
